BATIK WITH A TWIST
ECSAT launched a new range of products at the top of the range store called Dwellings at 52, Green Path Colombo 3 from 5.50 to 7.30 pm on March 25th 2010. The handicrafts are made in Galle where they have taken batik and given it a contemporary twist. The range included cushion covers, bedcovers, party packs, handkerchiefs, serviettes and coasters.
Two disabled support workers, who help train mentally impaired women, attended the launch and were confident to communicate with staff using sign language. Another two women who design and produce the handicrafts were proud to help display the products and talk with customers. ECSAT staff were able to discuss the ways in which the productions helped local people earn an income and the methods used for quality control.
The coasters sold out and the serviettes, handkerchiefs and party packs were popular items.
Refreshments were served throughout the evening while clients bought handicrafts and placed orders. Dwellings continues to stock ECSAT’s range of bean bags, floor mats and cushions alongside the new batik products - with a twist.
