Yamuna has been making handicrafts for over 8 years and has saved enough money to buy a new sewing machine. Here she is making a new design of baggy trousers which are currently very popular with tourists and on-line buyers. Yamuna creates her own applique embroidered designs for cushion covers and bags and makes clothes for special orders.
WARUNA, BATIK ARTIST
Waruna has been our batik producer since 2008 and his income supports his sister who has cerebral palsy. Here he is drying new colourways for cushion covers in his popular elephant design. Waruna produces his own creative designs for tablecloths, sarongs and cushion covers and enjoys producing special orders for saris and curtains.
Eshani does not allow her disability to stop her doing things. She loves dancing and is a lead dancer in ECSAT’s Dance and Drama programmes and a joy to watch with her beautiful facial expressions and graceful arm movements. In 2015 she started work at ECSAT and now works full time as an administrator. Here she is ironing and packaging ECSAT’s handicraft products ready for posting overseas.
